Coming up with drills and mini-games for a smaller group of people at practice can sometimes be difficult. Luckily for you, I’ve had too much experience trying to make a practice work for 2-4 people. That’s just how it is when you are coaching in a sport that isn’t the most popular.
I have many years of experience with coaching junior baseball teams and some times there would be 4 kids at practice and all they wanted to do was to “play a game”. So how do you do that? Well it involves being creative – that’s for sure!
Luckily with Baseball5 we have some more options, since the sport in of itself is already designed for a smaller crowd of people. But a proper baseball5 game still requires 10 people at practice – so what do you do when you only have 2-3 players at practice?
You can play my mini-game “Against the wall”
“Against the wall” (2-4 players)

Against the wall is a game-like mini-game that works great for practicing, hitting, fielding, running, agility, team work, throwing & catching.
This mini-game is great for when you have less than 5 players at practice or if you want to split up your practice.
The game has it’s main focus on hitting, but at the same time it is a very fast paced game for all involved players. There’s also an element of conditioning in the game as it takes stamina to play it competitively. But most importantly; it’s an extremely fun game to incorporate into your practice program.
Try this mini-game out next time you have a practice with a low number of players and let me know what you thought of the game.
